Suns of Home

Suns of Home was the first of my plays to be produced. It premiered at the Red Shed Theatre, Adelaide, on 26th June, 1992, and was produced in cooperation with the South Australian Writers' Theatre. Joanna Jackermis directed the talented cast, comprising Don Chapman, Paula Carter, Amanda Finnis, Linda Burvill-Holmes and John Martin.

Suns of Home is a two-act play dealing with an academic from a working class family, who returns home from interstate for a short visit. He finds an easy-going ocker brother, an ageing mother and a sister who resents having to care for their mother, while her brother pursues a highly successful career. The strain of the familial relationships is increased when the mother collapses and is restricted to a wheelchair.

The blend of humour and emotion was popular with the audiences, and the numbers built up to full houses for the final performances.
